Occupational Therapy

آکیوپیشنل تھراپی: روزمرہ کاموں میں خود مختاری

Occupational therapy (OT) helps children do the everyday "jobs" of childhood: playing, dressing, eating, holding a pencil, and coping with sounds, textures and movement. It builds independence and confidence.

Signs your child may benefit

  • Finds it hard to hold a pencil, use scissors or button clothes
  • Is very sensitive to noise, clothing labels, haircuts or certain foods
  • Seeks a lot of movement, crashing, spinning or climbing
  • Seems clumsy, tires quickly or avoids playground play
  • Has difficulty sitting still to finish a table task

What happens in sessions

  • An occupational therapist assesses motor skills, sensory needs and daily activities
  • Sessions use play-based activities such as threading, play dough, swings and obstacle courses
  • A sensory plan may be designed to help your child feel calm and ready to learn
  • Practical daily skills, like dressing or using a spoon, are practised step by step

How you can help at home

  • Offer hand activities like play dough, tearing paper, pegs and threading beads
  • Give movement breaks: jumping, carrying cushions, animal walks
  • Break dressing and self-care into small steps and praise each one
  • Try the Hands and Fingers and Active Play chapters in the Parh SAFAR Kids Workbook

Common questions

What is sensory processing?

It is how the brain makes sense of touch, sound, movement and more. Some children feel these too strongly or too little, which affects behaviour and learning.

Does OT help with handwriting?

Yes. OT builds hand strength, control and posture, which are the foundations of handwriting.

Is OT useful for ADHD?

Many children with ADHD benefit from OT strategies for movement, attention and calm.

Parh's screening is not a diagnosis. For medical concerns, please also consult a qualified doctor.
