Feeding Therapy

فیڈنگ تھراپی: کھانے کا وقت آسان بنائیں

Feeding therapy helps children who eat a very limited range of foods, refuse meals, gag on textures, or have mealtimes that are a daily struggle. The goal is calm, positive mealtimes and better nutrition.

Signs your child may benefit

  • Eats fewer than 15–20 different foods
  • Gags, vomits or cries when new foods appear
  • Only eats with a screen on, or must be fed for a long time
  • Has trouble chewing or moving to age-appropriate textures
  • Mealtimes cause stress for the whole family

What happens in sessions

  • A feeding specialist reviews eating history, oral-motor skills and sensory needs
  • New foods are introduced very gradually through touch, smell and play, without pressure
  • Oral-motor exercises can build chewing and swallowing skills
  • Parents learn calm mealtime routines that reduce battles

How you can help at home

  • Keep mealtimes calm, short and at the table, without screens
  • Put a tiny amount of a new food beside a food your child already likes
  • Let your child touch, smell and play with foods, as this counts as progress
  • Eat together and model enjoying a variety of foods

How it works at Parh

  • Start with the free online screening in English or Urdu
  • A therapist reviews the results and recommends a plan
  • Sessions online or onsite in Karachi, one-to-one or in small groups
  • Monthly progress reports, so you can see what is changing
  • Subsidised places for families who need them

Common questions

Is my child just a picky eater?

Many children are picky for a while. If the food list is very small, weight is a concern, or meals are very stressful, feeding therapy can help.

Should I hide food or force my child to eat?

No. Pressure usually makes refusal worse. Gradual, positive exposure works better.

Should we see a doctor too?

Yes. If there are concerns about weight, growth, swallowing or vomiting, please also see your paediatrician.

Parh's screening is not a diagnosis. For medical concerns, please also consult a qualified doctor.
